Three Sailors named to All-Sunset first team

Newport Harbor High senior David Linden and juniors Zach Lucas and Jack Yeager were named first-team All-Sunset League by boys’ water polo coaches after leading the Sailors to a second-place finish in league.

Linden, a two-meter player, led the Sailors (23-10, 5-1 in league) with 59 goals and added 64 steals and 22 assists.

Lucas, a driver, finished with a team-high 94 steals and also had 51 assists and 49 goals.

Yeager was second on the team with 57 goals. He contributed 51 steals and 47 assists.

Newport Harbor lost a heartbreaker in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs, falling, 3-2, at home to Santa Barbara in sudden-death overtime.

Junior Matt Russell and senior goalie Nick Holbrook made the second team.

Sailors receiving honorable mention were seniors Andy Hayes and Zach Osadche as well as junior Blake Kelly.

Forrest Watkins and Austin Trinkle, both from Los Alamitos, were Co-Players of the Year.
