Civil rights attorney culminates MLK series
Wondering about the future of civil rights issues in a new Obama administration?
Civil rights attorney Lani Guinier will talk about her own hopes and expectations at UCI Jan. 22.
Guinier, Harvard Law School’s first tenured black female professor and formerly a nominee to head the Civil Rights Division by President Bill Clinton, will give her talk as the final event in a series of commemorations of Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy.
Other campus events surrounding Martin Luther King Jr. Day include a day of community service, a “teach-in†on the “I Have A Dream†speech, a documentary on civil rights leader Rep. John Lewis, and a march in King’s honor Wednesday.
Guinier’s talk is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Crystal Cove Auditorium in the UCI Student Center. For free tickets, call (949) 824-0644.
