Youth Rugby Kicks Off

Saturday, January 10, 2009 the Back Bay Rugby Club (www.backbayrfc.com) opened its 2009 youth rugby season with a visit to the Hacienda Heights Phantoms.

In the Under 12 match Hacienda jumped out to an early lead by scoring first. Hacienda added another try and one conversion to Back Bay’s one Try for a 12 points to five lead at the half.

In the second half of the game Eli faked a pass and broke through the center for a long scoring run. Sean Julian added the conversion. Minutes Later Sean Julian broke down the wing for his own long scoring run. He then added another conversion. Finally, Eli broke through center once again and shoveled a pass to Sean Julian at the last moment and Sean went in for his second try of the day and then added the conversion to close out Back Bay scoring.

The Phantoms added a late score but it wasn’t enough and in the end Back Bay prevailed by a final score of 24 to 17.

The Back Bay youth rugby club provides an opportunity for boys and girls ages 5 through High School to learn and play rugby in a friendly and well coached environment.
