Newport Harbor sailing trio selected to U.S. team

Newport Harbor High senior Chris Barnard and junior Chris Segerblom, as well as Newport Harbor product Charlie Buckingham are among 35 youth sailors who have been selected for the U.S. sailing team.

Barnard will be competing for the under-18 laser radial. He finished third in the International Laser Class U.S. National Championship this past summer.

Segerblom is in the under-18 international 420 class for crew.

Buckingham, a sophomore at Georgetown, is part of the under-23 laser class.

He was an All-American skipper who helped lead the Hoyas to their first sailing national title at the 2008 Fleet Racing National Championships.

The 35 sailors have been identified as future Olympic prospects.
