Enjoy wellness and writing at day spa

Marciena Complete Retreat Day Spa, 303 Broadway, Suite 208 is offering weekly memoir writing seminars from 7 to j9 p.m. every Wednesday, called Writing From the Core.

Under the guidance of Sabrina Dalla Valle, participants will practice memoir writing using playful exercises to discover new life perspectives in a nurturing spa setting.

Dalla Valle has a master’s of fine arts in writing and consciousness, is a credentialed teacher and published writer.

The fee for each session is $20.

Leadership luncheon planned with mayor

The Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce and Civic Assn. is holding its 22nd annual Leadership Laguna Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hotel Laguna.

Laguna Beach Mayor Kelly Boyd will be the keynote speaker.

Attendees should be prepared to state their most significant accomplishment in 2008 and most important goal for 2009.

January is the month in France to celebrate Galette des Rois (King’s Cake or Twelfth Night Cake).

Picayo Restaurant is celebrating by offering the traditional almond-cream puff-pastry cake with a feve (lucky charm) inside.

Those who find the charm will be king or queen for the day.

Other cakes and pastries, along with tea, coffee, and champagne will also be offered every Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6 p.m. during the month of January at the restaurant, 610 N. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach.
