Four Vanguard men earn all-conference recognition

Vanguard University sophomore defender Tomislav Colic led three Lions named All-Golden State Athletic Conference in men’s soccer.

Colic, a repeat honoree, had one goal and five assists to help the Lions finish third in the conference. Vanguard was 9-6-2, 7-2-1 in the conference regular season.

The Lions lost in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament, 3-2, to Westmont, Wednesday.

Sophomore midfielder Scott Falkner, junior defender Jeremy Hampton and sophomore goalie Trevor Herrera also represented Vanguard on the 30-player all-conference team.

Falkner, who started all 17 games, had one goal and one assist.

Hampton, who also made all 17 starts, had one assist.

Herrera, who posted four shutouts, had a 1.09 goals-against average in 17 games, 16 starts.

Azusa Pacific junior Eric Winblad was named Player of the Year.

APU’s Philip Wolf was Coach of the Year for the regular-season conference champions, who meet Westmont in the conference tournament title game Saturday.
