Laguna Beach police are investigating the identity and cause of death of a man whose body was found early today on city property at 1900 Laguna Canyon Road, where the ACT V parking lot and public works facilities are located.

City workers notified police at 5:40 a.m. that a man was sleeping behind a transformer box on the property, Sgt. Jason Kravetz said. When officers approached the person, it was evident to the officers that he was deceased.

“At this time, investigators are handling the incident as a potential homicide due to the suspicious nature in which the victim was found,” Kravez said. He did not elaborate on the condition of the victim.

The identity of the victim has not been established, but investigators are actively working on the case, Kravetz said.

In addition to the police department investigators, the Laguna Beach Fire Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Crime Lab and Orange County Coroner all responded to assist with the investigation.
