Picnic Kickoff
To kickoff a $6.2M fundraising drive to complete the restoration of historic Colonial Revival Laguna Presbyterian Church, built in 1927, a meaningful worship service Sept. 14 was followed by Laguna’s Community Band Members who led worshipers to the Mermaid Parking for a fun family picnic, playing, “When the Saints Go Marchin In.”
Lorna Cohen and the worship team planned a beautiful service. Credit for the picnic goes to Linda Roberson and Sue Seybold. About 350 adults and kids attended. The Mermaid parking lot was lovely, with round tables with umbrellas, beautiful centerpieces (yellow mums and sunflowers in old fashion glass coke bottles.) Special activities for children ( the Bird Lady was there and face painting) and the youth assisted with the children’s activities. There was a pie baking contest and then everyone was able to eat the pies, a delicious treat after yummy hot dogs, chips, watermelon and ice cream cups. The community band played New Orleans jazz which had people, young and old, dancing around the tables. One church member commente, “You could feel the Holy Spirit everywhere!” She added, This event definitely was an example of our theme, A Church for all Generations!”
The event was a wonderful culmination to a momentous week, where 2 cranes placed steel beams in the corners of the bell tower and removed the cupola (fully intact) from the tower.
