Attic fire causes $20,000 damage to town home
Newport Beach firefighters were called to a town home near University Drive and Irvine Avenue on Monday afternoon after a neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from the attic.
At about 4:50 p.m., 20 Newport Beach firefighters rushed to the home in west Newport Beach after a fire started in the attic when no one was home, fire officials said.
Firefighters put out the flames within minutes and no one was injured, said Community Preparedness Coordinator Matt Brisbois. Officials estimate the fire caused about $20,000 in damage, most of it to the home’s attic. No other buildings were affected, Brisbois said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
