FBI on lookout for man who robbed a First Bank
Police and FBI investigators are looking for a man who robbed the First Bank in Costa Mesa Friday after threatening to kill a bank teller if the teller didn’t hand over money, authorities said.
Just before 2 p.m. Friday a man wearing khaki clothing and wire-rimmed, “granny-type” glasses walked into the bank at 3001 Harbor Blvd. and gave a bank teller a note that read, “Don’t be stupid, I’ll kill you. Give me your money,” said FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.
The note also said, “Don’t be a hero,” she said.
Costa Mesa police believe the man was loitering in the area before the robbery, and witnesses said he did not actually show a weapon during the robbery, said Sgt. Bryan Glass.
Authorities declined to say how much money was taken.
FBI investigators said Friday’s robber matches the description of a man who robbed a Washington Mutual bank in Santa Ana Monday.
Federal authorities are investigating whether he is linked to any other robberies, Eimiller said.
