Ex-Fountain Valley High star succeeding on tour
A week after finishing second at Louisville, former Fountain Valley High star Brad Keenan and partner John Hyden earned a third-place finish in the men’s tournament at the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals Crocs Tour Atlanta Open on Sunday.
Keenan and Hyden, the No. 4 seed, were ousted from title contention by the No. 6-seeded team of Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal, who went on to win the men’s title.
Gibb/Rosenthal defeated Keenan/Hyden, 21-18, 23-21, in the semifinals.
Huntington Beach resident Ed Ratledge, another product of Fountain Valley High, and his partner Ryan Mariano fell two wins short of reaching the semifinals. Ratledge/Mariano were eliminated from the tournament in a 21-16, 21-18 loss to No. 18-seed Paul Baxter and Matt Prosser in contender’s-bracket play.
On the women’s side, Ocean View graduates Katie and Tracy Lindquist went 1-2 in Atlanta and were eliminated in the contender’s bracket.
The Lindquist sisters were coming off their highest AVP finish — third — last week at Louisville.
