CdM’s Holland earns first-team all-league honor
Corona del Mar High senior second baseman Kevin Holland came away with first-team, All-Pacific Coast League honors.
Holland, making the first team for the first time, hit .319 with 14 runs batted in, second best on the team. Holland had five doubles, the team’s only triple, scored 12 runs, and stole nine of 10 bases. He had a .909 fielding percentage.
The Sea Kings (9-16, 4-8 in league, fourth place) had three players receiving second-team honors, junior third baseman Danny Moskovits, junior center fielder John Doering and junior pitcher/first baseman Matt Morris. Junior shortstop Michael Bloom made honorable mention.
Moskovits, a first-team pick last season, led the team with three home runs and 16 RBIs. He was second on the team in batting average (.333) and doubles (six). Moskovits tied Doering for the team lead in hits (25).
Doering boasted the team’s highest batting average at .347. He led the team by stealing 25 of 30 bases, walking 18 times, and a .484 on-base percentage.
Morris, a left-handed starter, finished 2-6 with a 2.60 earned-run average. He struck out 30 and walked only seven in 56 1/3 innings. Morris threw two complete games. As a hitter, Morris hit two home runs and drove in 11 RBIs.
This is the first all-league for both Doering and Morris.
Bloom hit. 324 with 13 RBIs and was first on the team with seven doubles.
