James B. Mackenzie

MACKENZIE, James B. 1929-2008. Died on May 16^th of natural causes. Jim, a Southern California native was born in West Los Angeles, graduated from University High School in 1947 and UCLA in 1951. He was accepted as an officer candidate in the Marine Corps, selected for flight training, then was assigned as a fighter pilot at Atsugi Naval Air Station, Japan. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the USMC Reserve. Jim then transitioned to a career in his beloved field of aviation. A few years at Lockheed were followed by a distinguished series of marketing positions at Douglas Aircraft Co. and McDonnell Douglas Corp. reaching the position of vice president before he retired in 1993.

Jim will be remembered as an outgoing, straightforward, faithful friend by all his Sigma Nu fraternity brothers, fellow naval aviators, aerospace colleagues, airline executives and many devoted neighbors.

He leaves his wife, Betsy; sons, David and Peter Mackenzie; daughter, Lisa Isaksen; stepsons, Terry Trip, Nick, Hadley and Andy Carpenter; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Jim had also survived his beloved first bride, Joyce (nee Miller), who predeceased him in 1971.

If you are reading this, there’s a good chance you’ve met Jim. He found friends wherever he went. You are lucky to be one of them.
