Girl Scout Troop 859 Odyssey of Huntington Beach introduces its two newest recipients of the Girl Scout Gold Award.
Katy Dominguez of Huntington Beach has been a Girl Scout for 13 years. She is active in her troop and her council as an ambassador for the Orange County Council Katy has visited New York, Wisconsin and Boston.
Katy’s Gold Award was to teach dance classes specifically designed for teenagers with Down Syndrome. At the end of the classes the students performed what they learned for their parents. When was the first time you danced to Henry the Eighth?
Katy will graduate next week from Huntington Beach High School. She has been active with APA, Academy for the Performing Arts. Katy hs been honored with CETA Outstandinig Theatrical, Work, (2) Understudy of the Year Nomination, Tower Award in American Sign Language, Tower Award in Mathmetics. She will attend UCI to attain a Bachelor’s Degree in Drama with a concentration in Production and Design for a Career as a Theater Technician.
Alysia Soria of FountainValley has been a Girl Scout for 11 years. Alysia earned her Gold Award by working with the organization called Loaves & Fishes. While the families come by for weekly donated groceries and clothing most of the families stay for English classes, that’s where Alysia comes in. Alysia put a learning/activity center together for the kids full of markers, pencils, balls, books and so much more. Alysia was able to interact with the children while their parents where in English class. She will never forget their smiling faces.
Alysia will graduate next week from Fountain Valley High School. Alysia has been very active in ASB as Activities Director, Publicity, Senate, WASC, Loud Crowd, and Every 15 minutes. Alysia will attend California State University, San Marcos in the fall with a major in Liberal Studies.

Odyssey is a Senior Girl Scout troop 45 strong in it’s 13 year. The Gold Award is the highest honor in Girl Scouts equilvant to the Boy Scout Eagle. The National average of girls who recieve the Gold is 6%. Katy and Alysia are the 63rd and 64th girl to achieve the Girl Scout Gold in Odyssey.
