May-Treanor and Walsh keep in going in Atlanta
ATLANTA — Newport Harbor High product Misty May-Treanor and partner Kerri Walsh have advanced to today’s semifinals at the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals Crocs Tour Atlanta event.
The top-seeded May-Treanor and Walsh defeated No. 4-seeded Dianne DeNecochea and Barbra Fontana in the quarterfinals, 21-14, 21-8, in just 37 minutes to advance to the semifinals.
Also still alive are No. 6-seeded Costa Mesa resident Jake Gibb and partner Sean Rosenthal, who have a fourth-round Contender’s Bracket match this morning.
Estancia High product Matt Fuerbringer and partner Casey Jennings, the No. 2-seeded team, lost in the second round of the Contender’s Bracket to No. 5-seeded Nick Lucena and Sean Scott, 17-21, 21-15, 15-13. They tied for ninth and split $2,875.
Costa Mesa resident Hans Stolfus, as well as Newport Beach residents Jason Ring and Ty Tramblie, all tied for 13th after they and their partners fell in the Contender’s Bracket first round.
