Eagles attempt to clinch league title against rivals
The Estancia High softball team can clinch at least a share of its second straight Orange Coast League title today.
To do it, the Eagles will need to beat cross-town rival Costa Mesa on the Mustangs’ field at 3:15 p.m., in the last of the teams’ three league meetings.
Estancia is 13-6, 6-1 in league, including three wins by forfeit over Laguna Beach, which isn’t fielding a program this year. The Eagles lost their league opener at Costa Mesa, 13-12, on April 4, but haven’t lost since.
Estancia is led by senior Taylor West, who has a Newport-Mesa best and school-record 12 home runs. Sophomore Amy Hartwell is batting a team-best .648, while senior Abby Koff is 4-1.
Costa Mesa (10-10, 4-3) is led by senior Emily Pulaski, who is batting a team-best .568.
