A sobriety checkpoint in Costa Mesa Thursday night did not produce any DUI arrests but did bring one arrest for narcotics, police said.

The checkpoint was set up at Placentia Avenue and 20th Street and lasted until midnight. Nearly 1,200 cars passed through the checkpoint and more than 300 were screened by officers, Sgt. Robert Sharpnack said. Police conducted seven DUI investigations but made no arrests. One person was arrested for possessing illegal narcotics and five vehicles were towed for unlicensed drivers or drivers with suspended licenses, police said.

Police have another checkpoint scheduled for May 9 at Newport Boulevard and Flower Street. Mothers Against Drunk Driving will be on hand with a display showing the effects of driving under the influence.
