UPDATE:
Newport Beach police say the driver of a Chrysler Sebring was at fault when he rear-ended a Costa Mesa woman’s car Thursday at Dover Drive and Mariners Drive.
The Newport Beach man, 34-year-old Andrew Scott Workman was speeding west down Mariners Drive when he slammed into the rear of Catherine Nadeau’s Jeep Grand Cherokee as she sat at the stop sign off Dover Drive, said Sgt. Evan Sailor.
The crash sent the Jeep into Mariners Park and into a tree, said Sgt. Spencer Arnold.
Nadeau appeared to be uninjured but started to have trouble answering medics’ questions, Arnold said. She and her daughter were taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. Workman was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian with a possibly dislocated ankle, Sailor said.
Early results from the investigation show that Workman’s speed was the likely cause for the crash, police said. There were no skid marks at the scene indicating Workman tried to stop before he hit the Jeep. Sailor also said there were no indications Workman was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
