Harman tapped for key Senate positions
State Sen. Tom Harman has been appointed Republican Caucus Whip, the third-highest position in the Republican Caucus. As Whip, Harman will be chiefly responsible for ensuring the enforcement of proper procedures and rules on the floor of the Senate.
“It is an honor to have been selected to serve in this leadership role on behalf of my colleagues and I remain fully committed to providing my seatmates the highest level of steadfast protections that they have come to depend on in the past,” Harman said in a written statement to the press.
Harman has also been assigned to the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, which oversees the overall architecture of the state budget, as well as the Budget Subcommittee on State Administration, General Government, Judicial and Transportation.
The budget committee assignments will give Senator Harman greater ability to protect against unnecessary and wasteful government spending. This will also allow Senator Harman to work to relieve the excessive strain currently lain upon the justice system by working to free up funds for additional judges.
Harman’s remaining committee posts are as follows:
Vice-Chair of the Judiciary Committee; member of the Business, Professions, and Economic Development Committee the Transportation and Housing Committee, and the Local Government Committee.
Harman’s new position on the Governmental Organization Committee is key towards implementing good legislation with regards to the National Guard, management of emergency and disaster response as well as gaming.
Harman is a board member of the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States, a multi-state coalition dedicated to the education of legislators on gaming issues and the proper regulation of gaming.
Harman represents Laguna Beach in the state legislature.
