Ernest Ohlig, of Newport Beach, our beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully at home April 23, 2008 at the age of 80. Ernest was an entrepreneur that lived the American Dream.

He was born in Cologne, Germany. During his early years, his family became involved in photography. Creating images became his vocation. Immigrating in 1952 with a few dollars in their pocket, Ernest and Lottie began a new life. A career in photography led to equipment design and manufacture. 1977 he cofounded OLEC; soon many newspapers, magazines, t-shirts, TVs, cell phones and computers were imaged with OLEC products.

With his speaking skills as a Distinguished Toastmaster he gave lectures to Universities and trade organizations around the world. He supported Don Bosco, which provided disadvantaged young people with the skills to make a career. Boating was always in Ernie’s blood from kayaks on the rivers of Europe to sailing in Newport Harbor and finally giving in to power craft.
