Program for sewer spills, backups increases amount
The Costa Mesa Sanitary District recently received additional funding for a program officials say helps prevent sewer backups and spills in the city’s plumbing.
The Residential Sewer Lateral Financial Assistance Program reimburses residents for 50% of costs associated with sewer lateral maintenance up to $1,800. The program has reimbursed residents more than $90,000 in its first seven months.
“It’s been an overwhelming success — we’ve had over 100 applications as of Monday evening’s board meeting, and there are still 20 being processed,” said Thomas Fauth, the district’s assistant manager. “We’re increasing the amount because of the response we have received and the benefits to the district due to the restriction in sanitary overflows.”
