WOMEN’S TENNIS

Orange Empire Conference Tournament

MISSION VIEJO — Orange Coast College freshman Brittany Bass, the top seed in singles, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Nedra Jenkins of Irvine Valley College on Tuesday at Saddleback College.

Pirates sophomore Evelyn Wallace and freshman Brittnie Furuvald also advanced to Thursday’s quarterfinals. Wallace, a Costa Mesa High product, advanced with a 6-1, 7-5 Round of 16 win over Victoria Andrade of Riverside. Furuvald advanced after beating Casey Wood of Saddleback, 6-0, 6-0.

Advancing to the doubles quarterfinals for the OEC champion Pirates were top-seeded Bass and Furuvald, Wallace and Kalin Eshelman, and Emily Garcia and Costa Mesa High product Jasmine Mathieson.

Orange Empire Conference Tournament

RIVERSIDE — Orange Coast College singles players Giovanni Villacana and Kevin Kordestani advanced to Thursday’s Round of 16 after second-round wins Tuesday at Riverside City College.

The OCC doubles teams of Pat Lam and Kevin Tran, as well as Landon Draper and Giovanni Villacana advanced to Thursday’s quarterfinals.

COSTA MESA — Cory Olson and Drew Hillman had two hits and a run each for the Pirates, who suffered their third straight loss, in Orange Empire Conference action Tuesday.

Brett Wallach went two for four for OCC (26-10-1, 10-4 in conference).

COSTA MESA — Lions senior Jennifer Olvera improved to 16-3 in the first game of the Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader that Vanguard split Tuesday at home.

Olvera allowed four hits, walking one and striking out eight. Freshman Stephanie Leisenring drove in junior Sarah Howe to score the game’s only run in the bottom of the sixth inning for No. 13 Vanguard (32-18, 7-11 in conference).

Azusa Pacific (20-23, 10-10) responded to win Game 2, scoring three times in the top of the first.
