Crissman tosses TD pass in all-star game

Edison High senior quarterback Nick Crissman threw the go-ahead touchdown pass in helping the Silver defeat the Red team, 17-14, in the Under Armour All-America High School Football Game at Orlando, Fla., Saturday.

Crissman’s 32-yard pass to D.J. Grant midway through the third quarter gave the Silver a 10-7 lead.

Crissman, who was named the 2007 Sunset League football MVP, has committed to UCLA. He was one of five UCLA commits playing in the inaugural all-star game.

Surf City pair run top times at OC Marathon

Two Huntington Beach athletes earned first-place medal finishes in the 5K race at the fourth annual Avia OC Marathon presented by Nutrilite on Sunday.

In the men’s 5K, Dave Schumacher of Huntington Beach won the event in 15 minutes 17 seconds. Schumacher edged Spencer Knight of Riverside, who finished in 15:19.

Kelly Flathers, also a resident of Huntington Beach, won the women’s 5K in a time of 17:35. Ceci St. Germe of Newport Beach finished second in 17:50.

In the marathon, Kassahun Kabiso of the Bronx, N.Y., won the men’s event in his first appearance with a time of 2:23.46. Cheryl Foody of Aliso Viejo won the women’s marathon in a race record time of 2:38.38. The marathon’s 26.2-mile course started in Newport Beach and ended in Irvine. The event also featured a half-marathon. Wesley Ochoro of Phoenix won the men’s race in 1:04:14.85 and Hyvon Ngetich of Oro Valley, Ariz., won the women’s race in 1:14:17.
