May-Treanor gets props from Sports Illustrated
The accolades continue to pour in for Misty May-Treanor and her beach volleyball partner Kerri Walsh.
May-Treanor, a former Newport Harbor High star, and Walsh were recognized in Sports Illustrated’s recent, “The Year in Sports,†issue. May-Treanor is one 25 females featured as Woman Athletes of the Year for several sports in the magazine.
May-Treanor and Walsh dominated beach volleyball in 2007. They won 13 of the 15 Assn. of Volleyball Professional events they competed in and they also captured seven of the eight Federation International de Volleyball titles they had a chance at.
The AVP honored May-Treanor as the MVP, Best Offensive Player and Best Defensive Player. Also with Walsh, they were named Team of the Year and with good reason.
May-Treanor and Walsh each passed Holly McPeak on the all-time wins list. May-Treanor is No. 1 at 89 victories and Walsh is No. 2 at 86.
The duo is also the winningest all-time women’s combo on the FIVB circuit. They won 129 of their 133 matches in 2007 (FIVB and AVP).
