Social group hosts wine auction for local charities

The Lemon Drop Club, a social group supporting local charities, raised $1,300 at a recent fundraiser at The Ritz restaurant in Newport Beach for the Queen of Hearts Foundation and ovarian cancer research.

Attendees were encouraged to donate wine for a silent auction.

The Queen of Hearts Foundation was formed in 2000 “to help fund research projects to find an early detection test for ovarian cancer while educating others on the disease.”

Organizer and The Lemon Drop Club member Steve Hearne said a loss of air conditioning “made it a little unbearable” for guests, and the club is hoping to raise more money by hosting another event soon.
