Games played Sept. 15

Boys under 14

Lucky Charms 4, CdM#1 1: Adam Kinder and Mason Murphy each scored two goals off of exceptional passes from Abner Viveros, David Morales and Robert Boullon. CdM was held in check all day by great defensive play from Connor Moore, Parker Joyce, Chase Crowell, Eric Rosales and Tanner Barrett.

Girls under 12

Great Green Sharks 2, Pink Pirates 2: McKenna Johnson led the Great Green Sharks with two goals in a hard fought tie with the Pink Pirates. Also contributing on offense were Kathryn Snell and Jenna Lincoln. The defense played superbly and was led by Jordon Goldsberry, Tootsie Tuducan and Hailey Mahaffey.

Paradise Parrots 3, Shock 0: Savannah Fausto, Lea Phillips and Tyler Stuper all scored goals for the Paradise Parrots. Brittnee Grosskopf, Brittany Welsh and Felicity Giddings had great passes and crosses that stopped Shock from scoring. Jacyln Manderson, Rebekah Foster and Noelle Hubbard had powerful kicks down the field. Nicole Franco, Bailey Carr, Stephanie Navarro and Marlee Phillips ruled the field with their strong defense skills.

Team Shock also took to the field with determination and enthusiasm. Kenya Avilamade a bold goal attempt, while Alice Barry really hustled at wing. Leah VanDyke and Kenya showed great team work in making the first goal of the game. In the second half, Hannah Doolin made great passes, and Amber Bowker kept the other team in check by stopping the ball midfield. Jenna Jarvis did an awesome job calling shots and keeping the team on task.

Strikers 6, Killer Ladybugs 1: Kate McFetters, Alana Aguirre and Cortlynn Clement each score a single goal, and Emily Nall scored three as the Strikers won. Sierra Stump, Alex Vasquez, Sabrina Sanchez all had assists. Olivia Muscatello, Michelle Duchus, Camille Christensen, Kilie Stivers, Brooke Hinton and Lauren Hanson played great defense for the Strikers, turning away scoring opportunities from the Killer Lady Bugs.

Boys under 12

Blackhawks 5, Ice Cubes 2: Despite being short two players and injuries, the Ice Cubes had a great game. Over the course of the game the team played aggressively, passing the ball to one another while staying focused and playing smart. Defenders Wills “The Wall” Johnson and Peter Doyle aggressively kept the ball from moving downfield and out of scoring position. Sam Jones kept the midfield area covered, and prevented the other team from scoring on multiple occasions. Forward Josh Ford was typically first to the ball, demonstrating masterful footwork maintaining control while being under attack by multiple players.

Ford played excellent offense and defense consistently throughout the game. Rory Fleming’s cross-kicks moved the ball into scoring position during the second and third quarters. But it was during the fourth Quarter, as goalie, when Fleming truly shined. His fearless saves kept the ball out of the goal, and his goal kicks repeatedly flew across half the field. Parker Young scored both points for the Ice Cubes, with assistance by Luke Mueller. The most exciting play of the game was when Mueller collided with a player from the other team, quickly got back on his feet to pass the ball to Young, who scored the first goal for the Ice Cubes. Patrick Halle also celebrated a birthday.

Red Banditos 3, “300” 3: The Red Banditos battled through a hard-fought and exciting contest against a “300” team that kept their composure and fought from a 2-0 deficit at halftime. The Red Banditos’ Hayden Hemmens scored the team’s first goal with an assist by Mikey Lugo, followed by goals from Keaton Hirsch and James Okvist. The Red Banditos defense held off the “300” scoring drive in the second half with tenacious play by Riley Brockman, Quinton McKay and Steven Bell-Nixon. Rogelio “Rocky” Gonzalez filled the goal and made some key saves to preserve the tie.

Girls under 10

Purple Penguins 2, A Million Bucks 2: A great matchup began with a driving goal early in the first quarter by Cameron Dewan of the Penguins. A decisive goal in the second by A Million Bucks had it all knotted at a 1-1 tie at the half. With awesome defense by Kate Granoff, Holland Hickson and Katie Kearns, it stayed tied until midway through the third quarter when A Million Bucks scored a go-ahead goal. In the final quarter, the Purple Penguins had an offensive uplift, with driving plays by Alyx Golan, Bailey Scalzo, Julianna Eifler, Brittany Wallace, Grace Blackman, Alexis Van De Langeryt, Jessica Woodruff and Emma Kathcart, all to be denied by A Million Bucks defense. With just minutes left in the game, Katie Kearns broke free with the ball to score an explosive tying goal for the Penguins.

The Blue Crush 2, Shiny Pink Diamonds 0: Blue Crush players Kate Hefner and Paige Fults each scored a goal.

Boys under 10

Green Devils 5, Barracudas 1: The Barracudas fought hard against a tough Green Devil team. Riley Blake scored the sole goal for the Barracudas in the fourth quarter, while the rest of the Barracuda offense made some great plays throughout the game. On a penalty kick, August Rice made a quick pass to Jack McClintock who just missed the net. Race Chambers, Zach Durham and Sean Freeman all displayed good ball handling and passing skills. On defense, Dylan Wolf and Marley Aragon were aggressive, and worked together using fancy footwork to stop a Green Devil shot on goal, while Hunter Warmington had a couple of good stops and defensive kicks downfield. R.J. Reid also played hard for the Barracudas.

Warriors 4, Silver Bullets 0: The game began with a quick goal made by the Warriors’ Sam Srapyan, which was followed up with a goal made by Spencer Amorde from midfield. Liam Tough made great plays as fullback, keeping the ball in offensive play for the Warriors, while Sam Minke and Chase Adelsohn took the ball forward to assist fellow teammates in scoring. The Warriors didn’t slow down there, with Wilson Lubeck scoring the third goal and Trent Burgess shooting the last goal with a power kick to the corner.

Girls under 8

Green Machine vs. Dolphins: In a tough match, the Dolphins came out quick with a powerful first-quarter goal. The Green Machine got back in the game with solid ball movement and penetration from Paxton Bryant, who narrowly missed a goal. Green Machine finally broke through on a goal from Eva Nadeau with an assist from Erin Schwartz. Paige Clayton and Emma Hammond kept the pressure on the Dolphins. With the crafty Rachel Del Valle and rocket Claire Covina out this week, Holly Nance stepped up and broke through for a spectacular goal to the upper corner.

Minutes later, Green Machine’s Kate La Grandeur broke from the pack and dodged two Dolphin defenders for a huge kick on goal. The shot hit the post and was cleared by the Dolphin defense.

Red Wildcats vs. Shamrocks: The Red Wildcats continued to play great defense, led by goalies Sarah Sheldon, Melelani Falasco, Rose Murphy and Tristan Warmington. Fullbacks Emily Wallace and Rylee Warmington hustled all over the field making great stops and passes to the forwards. Amelia Newitt and Amelia Bruscia played great on both ends of the field setting up two of the three goals scored by Sheldon. Murphy had the third assist.

Green Shamrocks vs. Golden Fireballs: The Green Shamrocks played their overall best game, as Lacey Ryan had a breakout out game. Annie Mader, Hannah Darrow, Rachael Bryant and Olivia Zablan played with enthusiasm. Ellie Brown, Lysie Kenney, and Avery Page denied their opponents on defense for the Shamrocks. Lily Woodall was all over the field making great plays once again.

For the Fireballs, Jordan Golden and Katie Browman both scored. The Fireballs played great defense as well with goalies Miranda McCormick, Betsy Calder, Lauren Lyons and Lauren Babin stopping the ball of the opponent time and again. Sydney Palmer played great defense and Lara Farinsky showed great determination.

Boys under 8

The Crazy Spongebobs vs. The Cheetahs: The Spongebobs started out with an early lead of two goals, one from Ryan Binford and the other from John Olmstead. The Spongebobs’ Race Mooers and Ben Zehnder had great assists and shots as well, with fantastic goal keeping from Justin Coar, Nick Halphide and Jacob Fleener. Anthony Rath and Jackson Wind kept the backfield secure with their excellent defense. The Cheetahs kept the game close with a third-quarter goal, but Michael Hoffman clinched the game with a goal in the fourth quarter for the Spongebobs’ first win.

Surfin’ Dolphins: Sean Waterman scored goals in the first and third quarter, one assisted by Cole Schneider, who played a strong defense and made a great sliding tackle in the fourth quarter. Scotty Ryder scored two goals in the second quarter. Waterman and Ryder each had four additional shots on goal during the game. Eathan Talley made three saves as goalie in the third quarter. Adam Lucas had three shots on goal in the second quarter and a great throw-in. Dillon Lippman played a great defense with big kicks and one shot on goal in the fourth quarter. Nolen Putnam had three shots on goal and great offensive pressure. Luke Mendoza played a great defensive game along with Ian Schwartz and Nathan Porter.

Gators vs. Trojans: Hunter Hall, Carter Bays, Vincent Rubino and Joshua Gehlke were amazing on the field for the Gators. Lucas Ovalle assisted Cole McFetters for an astounding over the head goal in the second quarter. Defense and goalie positions were well covered by Ian Hanson and Tommy Hanle.

Boys under 7

Thunderball vs. Barca Jr.: Mixtli Atl scored three goals for Thunderball as his team played the very talented Barca Jr. Mark Sanchez controlled the middle of the field with Rhett Farmer and Will Vandervort anchoring the defense for Thunderball. It was a very exciting up-and-down game that had great contributions from both teams, including Tyler Lowell and Nicolas Patel for Thunderball.

Girls under 6

Jelly Bean Girls vs Green Crickets: Green Crickets scored an early goal, followed by a goal for the Jelly Beans scored by Madison Bashaw, assisted by Faith Meltvedt, Caitlyn Hancock and Elliana Geffeney. The ball was back and forth between the evenly matched teams for most of the game, with the Green Crickets making another goal.. Bryton La Plante scored for the Jelly Beans in the last few minutes after receiving big goal kick pass from Fay Muenchow.

Firecrackers vs. Golden Stars: Courtney Ima, Paige Bryant, Keilani Lee, Ashleigh McPhie, Lily Shea and Lily Newman all scored goals for the Firecrackers. Katie Hess was very strong on defense.

Firecrackers vs. Shooting Stars: The Shooting Stars were well represented by offensive player Madison Mamelli, who scored two goals for the team, and who was ably assisted by teammates Peyton Russell and Alex Terry. On defense, Jeannie Williams made several key plays. All-around players Megan Houlihan and Kate Lynch helped to move the ball up the field while Katie Ridley contributed a solid fourth-quarter kick-off.

For the Firecrackers, Paige Bryant, Keilani Lee and Ashleigh McPhie all scored goals. Courtney Ima did some fantastic dribbling and breakaways. Lily Newman was strong on defense and Katie Hess showed some fancy footwork.

The Golden Stars vs. Pink Dolphins: Lauren Talley, Ava Yacoel and Sadie Pitches fought hard against the Pink Dolphin offense. Gracie Kiehnle and Helena Mulville played smart defense at the goal. Lauren Richter and Grace Close teamed to move the ball up field at lightning speed.

The Pink Dolphins were also on fire with goals scored by Leah Beehler and Fiona Slevinand and great assists by Tyesha Aguilar. Mandy Evans, Rachel Gore, Jaden Golden and Cora Harmon were great team players.

Girls under 5

The Pink Wahines vs. The Butterflies: The action started early with multiple goals from the Pink Wahines’ Emily Fleener, Riley DeCinces and Willa Rath. The Butterflies came back strong with multiple goals of their own. Rachael Naegle and Maggie Herrington took on the Butterflies single-handedly at times in defense and offense stopping goals and setting up assists for others. Both teams scored too many goals to count and were seen with ear to ear smiles throughout the game.

Lil Cupcakes vs. Purple Mermaids: Madison Lauderdale scored five goals with the help from her teammates. Savannah Young had a couple of great assists. Laila Mader scored a goal in the last quarter. Maggie Morton kept the energy going for the team. Lil Cupcakes showed great energy and good teamwork in an exciting game.

The Flaming Sharks vs. The Teeny Wahinis: The action was fast and furious, as both teams moved the ball well down field. The defenses did a great job defending their goals.

Blue Sparkling Unicorns vs. Green Grasshoppers: Lauren Friedman scored a quick goal for the Unicorns and Lea Ozdere also added a score. Bridget Walton also found the net for a goal and Lily Wind-Boses played solid defense.

Boys under 5

Yellow Lizards vs. Ninja Turtles: The Yellow Lizards as they scurried around the field, avoiding the Ninja Turtle attack. Solid performances were featured by all players. The Yellow Lizards were at full strength with the debut of Trent Liolios, who scored a goal. Zach Wilkens, Benjamin Roberts, and Trevor Muir also scored goals and Anders Olson had a timely assist.

Sea Creatures vs. Blue Flamethrowers: The Sea Creatures showed a lot of heart and team spirit in a hard-fought battle against the Blue Flamethrowers. The Sea Creature offense, which displayed great passing and shots on goal by everyone, was led by Owen Lucas, who used his ball-handling skills to score one goal, and Joseph Whelan, who also scored. Finn McClintock was tough on defense, stopping the ball with both his head and feet, while Eddie Peterson raced all over the field to block the Flamethrowers.

Orange Crush vs. The Superheroes: Orange Crush looked great as Brandon Kincaid made a fantastic first goal. Logan DeMoss scored three goals with the help of great blocking and assists by Christopher Reimers and Ethan Westerhout.

Blue Storm Troopers: Multiple goals were scored by Will Brown, Cannon Kenney and Jack Larner. Matthew Coar played with enthusiasm.

Games played Sept. 8-9

Girls under 14

Green Lightning 3, Newport Beach #1 2: Michelle Brookes scored 2 goals for the Lightning, and Monica Peterson booted in the additional goal to come out on top. Megan Farley and Page Keys played well as midfielders, dueling against Bailey Davidson and Sarah Bradbury of Newport Beach. Janet Martinez and Andrea OCampo showed great hustle and ball control to aide in the Green Lightning win.

Boys under 14

Lucky Charms def. Newport #2: The Lucky Charms received great games in goal from Kyle Regan and Adam Kinder. Adam Kinder also scored the first goal of the game on a header in the first five minutes. Also contributing strong games were Abner Viveros (three goals) and Mason Murphy with one goal and multiple assists on perfect passes. Strong offensive support came from Eric Rosales (one goal) and Robert Smith played solid defense.

Girls under 12

The Shockwave: Leah Van Dyke showed amazing power traveling up the sidelines, while Jessica Ochoa made a stellar attempt at the goal early in the first quarter. Kristin Watanabe used her fast feet to keep the ball at our end of the field and Alison Hanle was fast to the ball. Goalie Emily Wolfe showed impressive power with her goal kicks. Chelsea Baker along with the rest of The Shockwave really worked awesome together in their season opener. The final score was a 3-0 loss but team spirits remain high.

Great Green Sharks: In a valiant effort the Great Green Sharks keep the game close throughout all four periods with goals by Emily Cook and McKenna Johnson. Julia Thorley and Brianna Picquelle showed outstanding hustle and teamwork with the support of Britney Meyers and Haley Beacham in goal.

Boys under 11 Plus

Newport Mavericks 5, Lake Forest 0: Newport got the shutout with solid goalie efforts from Chas Beek and Ryan Braun. Five different players scored for Newport including Christian Watson, Cory Stowell, Jack Binford, Byron Gutierrez and Carson Poivre.

Newport Mavericks 2, San Juan Capistrano 1: Newport continued its solid defensive efforts led by Dominik Folkner, Riley Gaddis, Sawyer Farmer and Cash Swank to close out the win. Newport’s goals were scored by Kevin Tellez and Jack Binford.

Girls under 10

Purple Penguins 1, Pink 0: The first game of the season for the Purple Penguins was a defensive battle. The game started out quickly with two goals just barely missed by Julianna Eifler. Then Cameron Dewan found the target and scored one in the first quarter for the Penguins. With several goalie saves from Grace Blackman, Julianna Eifler, Bailey Scalzo and Katie Kearns, the Penguins were able to keep the Pink Team scoreless throughout. The offensive and defensive play was equally matched with stellar play from Alyx Golan, Holland Hickson, Emma Kathcart, Jessica Woodruff, Alexis Van De Langeryt and Brittany Wallace.

Wildcats 1, A Million Bucks 1: Charlie Toffel scored early for The Wildcats after nice ball movement by Emily Root, Emily Vaughan and McKenzie Porteous. A Million Bucks counter-punched with a quick score of their own. The balance of the game was a tough fight by both teams. The Wildcats had several scoring opportunities and kept A Million Bucks from scoring behind the great goalkeeping of Olivia Jaber and strong midfield and defensive work by Tatum McNutt, Meagan Rowan, Hannah Sanders, McKenna Blue and Jenna Eakin.

Red Rock Stars 3, Blue Cheetahs 1: The Red Rock Stars started the season with a superb team performance against an equally impressive Blue Cheetah team. The Rock Stars were aided by the great offense of Rayna Richardson, Jackie Singer and Melissa Taylor. Amber Smith, Josie Miller and Nicole Newman were huge on defense for the Rockers in their victory.

Shiny Pink Diamonds 2, Red Hot Tamales 1: The Pink Diamonds offense was sparked by goals from Jessy Rath and Lani Kerrigan with assists from Sarah Farley and Mollie Crook. The stellar defense was anchored by the O’Connor sisters, Erin and Anne, with support coming from goalkeeper Natalie Cappellini.

For the Red Hot Tamales, the offense of Megan Deegan, Kendall Cosenza, Destry Comp and Amanda Cox played well against the Shiny Pink Diamonds. Haley Martinez tapped in the ball for the Tamales, and Maggie Osumi blocked five shots. Midfielders Megan Keys, Rebecca Szulga and Demi Ronis attacked the ball and kept it upfield most of the game. Defensively, Genesee Giedt and Callie Spooner played great and kept the ball out of the goal.

Boys under 10

Barracudas 2, Green Gladiators 1: The Barracudas got off to a great start to the season with a hard-fought win over the Green Gladiators. August Rice and Ethan Zimmerman each scored for the Barracudas in the first and second quarters, respectively. Zach Durham narrowly missed a score, kicking the ball high into the corner of the net. The Barracuda defense played tough, with Marley Aragon making a number of amazing saves under pressure in the goal during the last quarter of play. Dylan Wolfe and Jack McClintock made great stops to gain control of the ball for the Barracudas, while Sean Freeman and Riley Blake played tough on both offense and defense.

Warriors def. Sea Devils: The Warriors’ great teamwork led the team to victory. Great plays were made by Phoenix Smith and Sam Minke, whose quick charges to the ball allowed for fellow teammates Chase Adelsohn and Wilson Lubeck to carry it downfield and put the ball in scoring position. Two goals were scored by Sam Srapyan. The Warriors’ Spencer Amorde made the second goal to tie up the game, and Trent Campbell made the final goal to lead the Warriors to their victory. Great goalie plays were made by Trent Burgess and Nick Carey.

Girls under 8

Green Shamrocks: The Green Shamrocks’ stifling defense was led by Annie Mader, Avery Page, Lacey Ryan and Hannah Darrow. Rachel Bryant made huge stops at goalie. Olivia Zablan, and Lysie Kenney made great passes to keep their offense a continuous threat. Lily Woodall showed her complete soccer skills by dibbling circles around her opponents, and Ellie Brown used her big left foot to score two goals.

Boys under 8

Gators vs. Fireballs: The Gators’ Cole McFetters and Vincent Rubino fired goals in the first quarter. The defense of Tommy Hanle and Domenic Christiansen kicked away attempted goals by the Fireballs, while Ian Hanson, Carter Bays and Hunter Hall kept the action going in the third quarter. Joshua Gehlke assisted Lucas Ovalle for a Gators goal in the fourth.

Trojans vs. Surfin’ Dolphins: Lucas Mowery and Billy Shannon both made stellar saves in goal for the Trojans. Patrick Folkner worked the goal line in true form, deflecting every ball. Mason McPhie, Reef Kugies and Luc Levine dominated a tough defensive battle. Will Sandburg worked through injury to contribute to the success of the Trojans’ season opener, while Jake Bashore and AJ Stefano effectively passed the ball upfield to score two goals.

Girls under 7

Island Girls vs. Purple Puppies: Caroline Pipkin and Skylar Jacobsen were stellar Island Girls goalies while Lauren Titelman and Carolyn Altshuler dominated the defense. Nicole Nesbitt and Claire Bacon were strong both offensively and defensively. Grace Fay and Alina Aguirre both had goals and assists for the Island Girls.

Red Wildcats vs. Yellow Cats: The Red Wildcats were led on offense by Melalani Falasco’s two goals and single goals by Amelia Bruscia and Sarah Sheldon. Great defense by twins Rylee and Tristan Warmington, as well as Emily Wallace and Amelia Newitt, supported the strong goalie play of Rose Murphy and Sarah Sheldon.

Boys under 7

Surfin’ Dolphins: Sean Waterman had two shots on goal and great passing. Scott Ryder had two shots on goal, made an awesome pass and made great stops as goalie. Nathan Porter and Ethan Talley also made some great stops as goalies. Nolen Putnam showed some super dribbling. Dillon Lippman, Luke Mendoza and Cole Schneider made some great passes to teammates.

Girls under 6

Shooting Stars vs. Green Crickets: Alex Terry scored the first-ever goal for the Shooting Stars. Megan Houlihan, Kate Lynch and Peyton Russell made great offensive play contributions while Katie Ridley and Jeannie Williams provided strong defense for the team.

Pink Diamonds vs. The Hummingbirds: The Diamonds attack was led by McKenna Kummerfeldt, Trinity Rodman and Jayd Sprague, who each had two goals. A solid defensive effort was put forth by Diamond girls Lauren Braun, Amanda Hsieh, Posey Di Paolo and Natalia Bryant.

The Golden Stars vs. Firecrackers: Gracie Kiehnle and Sadi Pitchess played really great offense charging to the goal. Lauren Talley, Ava Yacoeland Lauren Richter lead a speedy defense against the Firecrackers. Grace Close and Helena Mulville made assists at the goal.

Boys under 6

The Red Rhinos vs. the Blue Rockets: Dane Carroll, Zach Forbath and Landon Searcy all scored goals for the Red Rhinos. Crossten Hall and Adam Rimland had attempts on the goal. Grady Birmingham played a great defensive game for the Rhinos.

Red Knights vs. The Blue Rippers: The Red Knights had a great first game! Coached by Matt Eimers, Evan, Danny, Matthew, David, William, Kevin and Brandon made great defensive plays and all were successfulat making a goal. They showed great spirit and sportsmanship.

Girls under 5

The Pink Wahines vs. Dolphins: The Pink Wahines consisting of Emily Fleener, Riley DeCinces, Maggie Herrington, Rachael Naegal and Willa Rath played their very first AYSO soccer game againsta great team, The Dolphins.In front of a full stadium of friends and family, the Pink Wahines played fantastic with multiple goals from Riley DeCinces, Emily Fleener, Willa Rath and Rachael Naegal. Maggie Herrington backed the team up withstellar defenseand all the girls from both teams were seen smiling and having a great time.
