Henry Burke
Funeral services for Henry Burke who died Saturday, September 15th 2007 in Harrison, Arkansas will be held on Friday, September 21 at 12:00 p.m. at Pacific View Memorial Chapel in Corona del Mar, CA . The Reverend Dr. Seamus Doyle of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Harrison, Arkansas will be officiating.
Henry was born in New York City to Albert E. and Joanna Barbara (Seip) Burke.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice “Bonnie” (Anderson) Burke, his parents, two brothers, John Burke and Albert E. Burke, Jr. and a sister, Mildred Burke.
Survivors are his wife, Thelma (Ellison) Burke; his daughters, Barbara and her husband, Wayne Miller and Bonnie Burke; his sons; H. Haven Burke and his wife, Jackie, John W. Burke and his wife, Elena and Robbie Burke; stepsons, Gary, David and Doug Grills; stepdaughters, Patricia Martinez, Karen Spence and Beverly Johnson; twenty grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and two nieces.
He and his family moved to Seattle Washington in 1927. Upon graduating from the University of Washington he joined the family business, Washington Dental Supply Company. He was one of the earliest members of the Washington Athletic Club where he was considered a “Star handball player” competing in singles and doubles with his brother Albert, Bruce Lampkin, father Frank Logan and Mike Fies among many others in regional and national tournaments . He and his family moved to Newport Beach, CA in the early 60’s, there he continued in business and active in handball at the Rampart Athletic Club and also at UCI. Fourteen years ago he met and married his wife Thelma Ellison they continued to live in Newport Beach and Oceanside until fours ago when they moved to Harrison, Arkansas to be near Thelma’s son Gary.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. John’s Building Fun, 707 W. Central, Harrison, AR 72601, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, American Cancer Society or The American Heart Association.
