Lightning Invitational
NEWPORT BEACH – Sage Hill School sophomore Julia Blakely, a transfer from University, made the most of her debut with the Lightning, collecting MVP honors in the tournament Sage Hill won for the third straight year Saturday at Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club.
Blakely went undefeated in the tournament, 9-0, as the Lightning went 3-0 in the two-day tournament to win the title. Sage Hill defeated Santa Ynez, 10-8, Friday, then beat Bishop Gorman Catholic of Nevada, 10-8, early Saturday, and South Torrance, 11-7, afterward.
The Lightning’s Jaclyn Smrecek, Danielle Goodman, Niki Cochran and Laney Tucker were named to the All-Tournament team.

Newport Harbor
The Sailors, the No. 2 seed in the tourney’s Division I group, suffered their first lost of the season with a setback in the quarterfinals to Vista Murietta, 24-26, 33-31, 15-9, Saturday at Edison High.
Jamie Heenan led the Sailors (5-1) with 14 kills, while Megan Munce and Mary Buckingham had 10 each.
Newport Harbor reached the quarterfinals with a 25-16, 25-21 victory over Santa Barbara. Munce and Heenan had 10 kills each in the win.
The Sailors opened the day with a 25-10, 28-30, 15-9 victory over Torrey Pines to win their pool at Newport Harbor. Heenan had 11 kills and five digs and Munce contributed eight kills.
Corona del Mar
The Sea Kings lost in the first round of the Division I playoffs to Los Alamitos, 25-16, 25-12, Saturday at Edison High.
Corona del Mar also suffered a loss to end pool play earlier in the day at its gym. Dos Pueblos defeated the Sea Kings, 25-21, 22-25, 15-9.

NEWPORT BEACH – Clint Jorth, Colin McKibbin and David Linden scored two goals each for the Sailors in the nonleague game Saturday.
McKibbin led the Sailors (2-1) with three steals. Jorth and Andy Hayes collected two steals each.

IRVINE — Max Bergeson had four goals and three steals for the Sea Kings in their nonleague game Friday at Beckman High.
Chris Cottrell had one goal and seven steals for the winners. Lucas Reynolds had two goals and Evan Zepfel, Brian Schiefer, Carter Taylor and Michael Liao each scored once.
Isle Anderson made nine saves for CdM.
