RETAIL ROUNDUP: ‘Greatest of all things’

Situated around the Goat Boutique on the Westside are a number of white plaster statues of goats — one of them sporting a line of tank tops draped over its back. They’re a delightful part of the store, but owner Christina Smith didn’t have the animal in mind when she coined the name of her business.

“Goat is an acronym for ‘greatest of all things,’” she said. “We sort of adopted that as our mantra.”

Now, Smith is aiming to expand that mantra to new ears.

The women’s clothing boutique, which opened last November on 16th Street, launched its online store last week, allowing out-of-town customers to inspect the latest outfits online and check the prices for individual items. Smith said the products on the site, which she personally selects for display, will change about once a month.

“I wanted to do a website because I get so many people who come from out of town,” she said. “Now I can have a national customer instead of just a local one.”

Shoe store donates to the United Way

Allen Edmonds, the shoe store that opened in South Coast Plaza in July, plans to celebrate its grand opening Wednesday. From 6 to 8 p.m., the store will donate 10% of all proceeds to the Orange County United Way.

The store is on the first level of the mall, near Saks Fifth Avenue. Call (714) 662-7357 for more information.

Pinkberry to debut at Fashion Island

Fashion Island didn’t throw a party for its 40th anniversary this month, but the upscale mall has a new confection coming this fall. Pinkberry, a Los Angeles-based frozen yogurt chain, plans to open a store at the mall in November.

The location is expected to be the second Orange County spot for Pinkberry, which also has a Huntington Beach site in the works.

The store offers nonfat frozen yogurt in plain and green tea flavors, with fruit, nuts and other healthy toppings, along with all-natural smoothies and shaved ice.

Ching Hsieh, the public relations coordinator for Pinkberry, said Fashion Island was a coveted location.

“We just thought it was a really great mall to be in,” she said. “I know it’s a pretty popular one over there. We try to be in kind of a higher-end mall location, so we really wanted to be in Fashion Island.”
