Classic coastline craftsmanship
Hundreds of onlookers showed up from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Big Corona del Mar State Beach for the Coastline Car Classic show featuring classic motor vehicles from the United States and abroad. The show featured roughly 200 vehicles split into 12 categories, including the featured “Woody†surf classic, foreign classics, corvettes until 1975 and hot rods and post-World-War-II muscle cars.
“It was fantastic,†said Corona del Mar resident Nick LaCammore. “There was a black Impala there. It was beautiful. It even had the black California plates,†LaCammore said.
LaCammore and his wife, Laura, hit the show first thing in the morning with a group of friends and were impressed by the variety and craftsmanship of almost every vehicle.
The one thing they weren’t happy about was the “$10 it cost to get in,†Laura said, but added the cars were “sick.â€
The group had to virtually keep the drool back in their mouths when checking out a black 1966 Chevy II — the car that would years later be named the Nova.
“It was perfect, black inside and out,†said friend Garrett Massarro.
The group took some time to talk with a few of the owners. The most memorable was the proprietor of a 1928 green Bentley with an old-fashioned hand brake housed on outside of the car, said Melissa Bressler.
“If you ever watch ‘A League of their Own,’ one of the girls in that movie drove this car,†Bressler said. “He told us about how he drove it all the way down the Swiss Alps and they had to have the brake pulled down the whole time.â€
Awards including the Mayor’s Award, Fire Chief Award, Police Award, Best of Paint and Best of Show were given at 2:30 p.m. For more information about the awards and next year’s schedule check out www.coastlinecarclassic.com.
