Surf lessons offered today for kids with cystic fibrosis
Children with cystic fibrosis will get personal surfing lessons from Cordell Miller and other prosurfers 5 p.m. today at the beach off 54th Street in Newport Beach.
Surfing provides physical and spiritual therapy for children with cystic fibrosis, said Casey Caston, special-events director for the Southern California Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Salty beach air helps cystic fibrosis patients breathe more easily, Caston said. The hereditary disease can cause frequent lung infections .
An auction of two surfboards and other work will benefit the foundation; it starts 7:30 p.m. at Cordell Surfboards, 411 31st St., Newport Beach. A portion of sales from any Cordell Surfboard bought tonight also benefits the foundation.
