More than 1,800 parishioners from throughout the Diocese of Orange are expected to celebrate the diocese’s 30th anniversary at a special event on Saturday at Mater Dei High School.

From 8 a.m. to a concert starting at 7:45 p.m., parishioners will celebrate at the “Anointed to Serve” event at the high school at 1202 W. Edinger Ave., Santa Ana.

Pope Paul VI created the Diocese of Orange from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1976.

Since then the diocese has become the 11th-largest diocese in the United States, with 1.2 million Catholics.
