Newport Harbor 222, Corona del Mar 250

NEWPORT BEACH — Lauren Draganza shot six-over-par 41 to earn medalist honors and lead the Sailors in the nonleague match against their Back Bay rivals at Newport Beach Country Club Thursday.

Tiffany Kim (44), Kendall Horn (46) and Morgan Moody (47) also contributed to Newport Harbor’s victory and helped the Sailors improve to 2-0.

CdM, which included, Kelly Moorehead (48), Amanda Johnson (48) and Katherine Hanson (51), dropped to 0-2.

Estancia def. Long Beach Millikan

COSTA MESA — Eagles sophomore Kim Haycraft shot an eight-over-par 43 for Estancia, which defeated Long Beach Millikan by forfeit Thursday at Mesa Linda. Millikan was not able to field a full team of five golfers.

Also scoring for Estancia (1-0) were Ashley Peters (45), Jackie Crosson (48), Taylor West (49) and Jill Beck (54).

Newport Harbor 5, Marina 1

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Senior captain Samantha Hill scored one of Newport Harbor High’s five goals to lead the Sailors over nonleague rival Marina on Thursday afternoon.

Halfway through the game, Harbor Coach Devon Kelly told her players that they needed to be faster and that would open up the game.

She was right as her team scored four more goals to finish with five. Brooke Nelson, Claire Ramser, Claire McElroy and Chelsea McDonald added one goal each for the Sailors (2-0).

“It’s a fast passing game, especially against a team like this,” Kelly said.

Estancia 10, Irvine 8

IRVINE — The Eagles used three singles wins by sophomore Kendra Fisher to prevail in their season opener Thursday at Irvine High.

The No. 1 doubles team of Abby Koff and Jennifer Johnston also won three times for Estancia (1-0). Misha Brown and Jennifer Corona won twice at No. 3 doubles, Laurel Hinson and Alex Payzant won once at No. 2 doubles and Ellie Edles added a singles win for the Eagles.
