Power restored for Newport Beach residents
Power returned to Newport Beach customers by Thursday evening after outages caused in part by overuse of air conditioners during the recent heat wave.
One neighborhood had been without power for nearly three days.
The lights were back on in all but three homes by 11 a.m. Thursday, with power restored to all Newport Beach customers by 3 p.m., said Vanessa McGrady, a spokeswoman for Southern California Edison.
“The majority of the outages were due to the heat wave last weekend,†McGrady said. “The fact that it stayed hot during the evening added to the extra strain on the system.â€
More than 40 Edison customers between Bedford and Cornwall lanes lost power about 7 p.m. Sunday.
The neighborhood went without electricity for more than two days before power was restored to all customers by Thursday evening.
