Meeting will continue talks on Corona del Mar library

Newport Beach city and library officials welcome Corona del Mar residents and library lovers to a meeting Saturday, when officials will discuss possible plans to raze or rebuild the library and replace the adjacent fire station on Marigold Avenue. It’s the follow-up to an Aug. 27 meeting where residents told the city they don’t want to see the library go.

City leaders considered a plan to incorporate a small library area into the nearby Oasis Senior Center, which will be rebuilt in several years. According to the library, circulation at the Corona del Mar branch has fallen, particularly since the central library opened about a mile away in 1994.

But residents said they want to keep their branch and they’d like to see more programs and material for children. Officials will gather more public input at the meeting and answer questions about several plans for the library. The City Council will decide its ultimate future. The meeting takes place 9 a.m. at 420 Marigold Ave.The council will discuss the options Sept. 25.
