City to take next step to collect delinquent fines

The owners of 16 properties owe the city of Costa Mesa $10,875 in delinquent fines, and the City Council will decide Tuesday the best way to collect.

The city has tried unsuccessfully to get those who owe to pay up, so City Finance Director Marc Puckett has suggested taking the next step, asking the Orange County Assessor to place tax liens on the properties until the delinquent amounts are paid.

Also Tuesday, the council will vote on whether to renew the county’s lease on the Mesa Verde Library through 2017. The city owns the library and the county operates it as part of the Orange County Public Library system.
