Misty May-Treanor just keeps on winning.

On Saturday, a victory for the gold medal at the A1 Grand Slam meant that she became the winningest player since the women’s competition on the international beach volleyball circuit began in 1992.

The Newport Harbor High product, along with Kerri Walsh scored seven of the last nine points of the match to capture the gold medal in Klagenfurt, Austria.

It was May-Treanor’s 32nd international gold medal.

After winning the first set, 21-16, against third-seeded Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca, the top-seeded May-Treanor and Walsh trailed the Brazilians, 19-16, at a side-switch in the second set. May-Treanor and Walsh scored three straight points to tie the set with Silva and Franca siding out for a 20-19 lead. May-Treanor regained the lead at 21-20 en route to a 23-21 win in the second set of the 46-minute match.

“That was a remarkable comeback,†May-Treanor said in a press release. “We caught fire at the right time and did not give up. We have a history of scoring points in bunches and we certainly did today at the end of the second set. Juliana and Larissa are a great team that is very competitive. We made some big plays in the comeback to recapture another Austrian title in front of this crowd.â€

With Saturday’s title, May-Treanor and Walsh shared the $43,500 first-place prize and won their fifth World Tour gold medal in six events this season. With only one international setback in 42 international matches this year, they have earned $245,500 on the 2007 FIVB tour.

May-Treanor and Walsh’s only defeat was a 21-19, 21-19 decision to China’s Jia Tian and Jie Wang in the Norwegian Grand Slam semifinals last month.

Meanwhile, in Chicago, Costa Mesa resident Mike Lambert and his teammate Stein Metzger won the Chicago Open with a 21-19, 21-17 victory over Brad Keenan and John Hyden Saturday. Lambert and Metzger have four first-place finishes this year, including three of the last four events. They are positioned to move into second place in the overall Crocs Cup standings. They resume play in the Manhattan Beach Open, which begins Thursday.
