No flights delayed after JWA electrical fire
An early morning electrical fire at John Wayne Airport on Monday disrupted all the lighting along the runways, but no flights were delayed, authorities said.
An airport employee reported the fire about 4:30 a.m. after noticing smoke billowing from a building that holds the equipment, which supplies the power to runways and lanes for taxiing.
The fire took about 25 minutes to contain, authorities said. No one was injured in the blaze, airport spokeswoman Jenny Wedge said.
“Fortunately, we were able to open and run everything on schedule,†Wedge said. The challenge was getting the lights running for evening flights, she added.
