2 men in collision arrested on suspicion of DUIs
Two men suspected of driving under the influence, as well as a passenger, were hospitalized Sunday after an early morning collision, police said.
At 1:27 a.m. Michael Escobedo, 21, of Santa Ana, was heading north on Placentia Avenue when he broadsided another vehicle, police said. The other driver, Pedro Martinez, 26, and his passenger Sebastian Juarez, 18, both of Costa Mesa, were injured in the crash.
Martinez was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana and treated for serious injuries and is listed under critical but stable condition, Sgt. Greg Scott said. Police found he may have also been driving under the influence and arrested him for suspicion of a DUI.
Juarez and Escobedo were taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach. Juarez was treated for minor injuries and released, police said.
Escobedo was arrested on suspicion of a DUI with injuries and a felony hit-and-run, police said.
