GOLF:Jones Cup date reset
The Jones Cup, which is in its seventh year, has been rescheduled for Sept. 6 at Big Canyon Country Club.
There was a schedule conflict and the local golf event could not be played on the original date of Aug. 30.
The Jones Cup features the top players from the four area private golf clubs. Each team is made up of five golfers, usually two club pros, a men’s champ, a women’s champion and the top male senior, competing in a best-ball format.
Last year’s champion was Mesa Verde Country Club, which won its first Jones Cup since 2000.
This year, the two best amateurs from the Jones Cup will qualify for the National Mercedes Benz Championships at Kapalua, Hawaii, Jan. 3-8, when they will represent Fletcher Jones Motorcars.
