While Alex Crawley was running to an individual title in the girls’ 3,200-meter run Saturday, several other Laguna Beach High athletes turned in outstanding performances at the CIF Southern Section Division IV finals at Cerritos College in Norwalk.

Senior Brittany Clark finished in third-place in the girls’ 100-meters with a time of 12.15. She finished behind a pair of runners from St. Mary’s Academy, winner Yasmin Woodruff (11.65) and second-place Lor’rena De’jurnett (12.12).

“She’s had an incredible career here at Laguna,” Laguna Coach Earl Towner said, noting that Clark holds the school record in both the long jump and 200-meters.

She also was the girls’ 100-meters winner at this year’s Orange County Championships.

Towner also was impressed with freshman Camille Borges’ ninth-place finish in the 3,200-meters run that was won by Crawley.

Borges, he said, didn’t run cross-country but played soccer during the fall.

“She’s remarkable and is very talented,” he said. “The future looks bright for her.”

Laguna’s girls finished in 10th in the team standings with 16 points. The division was won by Marlborough with 112 points.

In the boys’ Division IV competition, senior E.J. Gomez finished his Laguna career with a couple of top finishes.

Gomez ran a 51.16 to finish fifth in the 400-meter dash, improving upon his seventh-place finish at the CIF prelims meet on May 12. Later, he went 22.28 to place fourth in the 200-meter dash, also an improvement from a sixth-place finish at prelims.

Senior Jonathon Martinez was two spots behind Gomez in the 400-meters, going 51.34 to finish seventh.

Senior Nick Newell garnered a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 42-11 1/4 . He improved upon his prelims placement (ninth) by three spots.

Junior Sheldon Eaton also had a pair of top placements, finishing eighth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.15, and then ran a 41.04 to capture fifth-place in the 300-meter hurdles.

Laguna’s 4 x 400 relay team, fourth at prelims, finished the finals race in 3:28.17 to capture third.
