WOMEN’S GOLF

NCAA ChampionshipDaytona Beach, Fla. — The UC Irvine women’s golf team battled afternoon winds on the second round of the NCAA Championship at the LPGA International Golf Course and are currently tied for 16th place.

The Anteaters, who are tied with Michigan State, shot a 314 on the second day, dropping from seventh to 16th place with a total of 614. Duke, the only team to shoot under par on the day (287), leads the field with an 11-over 587.

UC Irvine junior Selanee Henderson is in 14th place with a two round total of 149 (69-80), while freshman Patty Chawalitmetha is 63rd with a 155 (76-79).

Junior Kim Lorenzana, who led UCI with a second-round 77, is 74th with a score of 156 (79-77). Junior Jane Chin is 103rd with a 36-hole total of 161 (83-78) and freshman Henna Cho is 111th at 163 (79-84).

UC Irvine continues the championship with 18 holes today at 6 a.m.

WOMEN’S SAILING

National ChampionshipNORFOLK, Va. — The UC Irvine women’s sailing team is in fourth place after the first day of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) National Championship in Norfolk, Va.

Saint Mary’s leads the 18-school field with 60 points, College of Charleston is second with 61, Navy is third with 71 and UCI has 79 for fourth place.

The Anteaters’ Whitney Loufek and Megan Pluth placed second in the “A” Division with 32 points, winning the fifth of six races.

Ashley Simpson, Danielle Richards and Caitlin Robinson finished eighth in the “B” Division with 47 points and had a top finish of third in the fifth race.

The championship continues today and Friday on the Elizabeth River.
