SWIMMING

CIF Masters MeetLONG BEACH — Corona del Mar High junior Yutaro Yamashita finished sixth in the boys’ 200-yard freestyle and seventh in the 100 butterfly, leading Newport-Mesa finishers Tuesday at the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet at Belmont Plaza.

Yamashita finished with times of 1 minute, 43.05 seconds in the 200 free and 51.47 seconds in the 100 fly.

CdM senior Stephanie Gabert finished 12th in the both the girls’ 200 free (1:53.44) and 500 free (5:01.41), while teammate Sarah Furgatch was 22nd in the 500 free in 5:09.80.

Furgatch, a sophomore, also finished 10th in the 100 breast, in 1:06.98.

Sea Kings senior Brian Peotter was 12th in the boys’ 50 freestyle in 21.81 seconds, also taking 15th in the 100 free in 47.76.

Estancia High junior Shea Kopp finished 17th in the girls’ 100 back (59.50 seconds) and 20th in the 50 free (25.12).

CdM senior Chelsea Pike finished 21st in the 100 free, in 55.05 seconds. She also swam leadoff for the 400 free relay, also including Furgatch, Kelsey Larson and Gabert, which placed ninth in 3:39.24.

Pike, Furgatch, Heather Van Hiel and Gabert were 21st in the 200 free relay in 1:43.32. For the CdM boys, Chris Cottrell, Michael Liao, Yamashita and Peotter were 21st in the 200 medley relay in 1:43.39. Yamashita, Mike Berry, R.J. Baldoni and Peotter teamed for 18th in the 400 free relay, touching in 3:17.11.
