Man hospitalized after fire breaks out in garage
A man was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon, suffering from second-degree burns when a fire broke out in the garage the man was working at in Costa Mesa, fire authorities said.
The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. at a strip mall unit in the 600 block of Terminal Way, Battalion Chief Kirk Dominic said.
“The guy was in there working on a car, doing repair on the fuel pump when the gasoline flashed, and caught fire,” Dominic said. Authorities called in a second alarm fire, Dominic said.
The fire is still under investigation, Dominic said.
Nine fire engines from Costa Mesa and Newport Beach responded to the fire, which was extinguished in under 15 minutes, Dominic said.
The victim was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana and treated for second-degree burns, Dominic said.
