WOMEN’S TENNIS

State championshipsAPTOS — Orange Coast College sophomore Jaleh Mazaheri advanced to today’s semifinals in singles and doubles by winning twice Friday at Cabrillo College.

Mazaheri defeated Megan Kummer from Chabot, 6-3, 6-1, in the singles quarterfinals, after topping Alez Seimens from Sierra, 6-2, 6-2, in the round of 16.

Mazaheri and partner Heather Morton teamed to defeat sisters Allie and Anna Optman fro Santa Barbara City College, 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

Mazaheri and Morton topped a team from Cabrillo in the round of 16.

OCC’s J.D. Doran, a Corona del Mar High product, and Evelyn Wallace out of Costa Mea High, teamed to advance to the doubles quarterfinals.

They lost, 6-3, 6-2, to a team from Sierra College, after beating a team from Sacramento City College, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), in the round of 16.

The singles semifinals are set for 9 a.m. with the final scheduled for 11 a.m.

The doubles semifinals are at 1 p.m., with the final set for 3 p.m.

MEN’S TENNIS

State championshipsAPTOS — Orange Coast College freshman Jon Kroopf was eliminated in the quarterfinals after winning in the round of 16 Friday at Cabrillo College.

Kroopf, out of Corona del Mar High, defeated Yusi Asari of Chabot, 6-1, 6-1, but lost then lost to Kyle Erickson of Grossmont, 7-5, 6-1.

The Pirates’ doubles team of Patrick Lam and Charlie Nguyen lost in the round of 16 to No. 1-seeded Nick Jakosian and Shaun Huk of Chabot, the Northern Regional champions, 6-2, 6-2.

TRACK AND FIELD

Big West Conference ChampionshipsNORTHRIDGE — UC Irvine junior Julian Eison won the high jump and Jon Wratten was second to highlight showings by Anteaters Friday at Cal State Northridge.

Eison and Wratten cleared 6 feet, 10 3/4 inches, but Eison had fewer misses.

Other finishes by UCI athletes:

Kendall Bruton was third in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11 minutes, 3.80 seconds.

Tim Hearst was third in the men’s 3,000 steeplechase in 9:07.32.

Erinn Kimm was fourth in the wome’s 10,000 in 36:53.29 and Candice Proctor was fifth (37:02.61).

Ryan Hershey was sixth in the men’s high jump (6-6 3/4 ).

In qualifying Friday, Napoleon Greene 52.40 in the 400 hurdles) was the fastest qualifier and freshman Tim Murphy led three UCI qualifiers I t5he men’s 800 with a tme fo 1:50.76.

UCI is fourth in the men’s team standings and fifth in the women’s title chase.

The meet concludes today.

WOMEN’S GOLF

NCAA West RegionalST. GEORGE, Utah — The UC Irvine women’s golf team is fourth after the second day of play at Snow Canyon Country Club.

The top eight move on to the NCAA Championships, May 22-25, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
