BASEBALL
San Diego 4, UC Irvine 1SAN DIEGO — The No. 13-ranked Anteaters used six pitchers, but it wasn’t enough to slow down No. 6 San Diego in a nonconference game Tuesday.
UCI tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning, but with the bases loaded and two outs, reliever Russell Holzhauer (2-1) got out of the jam for the Toreros (39-14). He got UCI’s Ollie Linton to ground out to end the threat, as the Anteaters left seven runners on base.
The Anteaters (31-14-1), who have dropped two straight games, return to Big West Conference action against Pacific, which will play host to a three-game series starting Friday.
