Calvary Chapel 41,SANTA ANA — A four-point fourth period was the Mustangs’ downfall in their Orange Coast League loss Tuesday.
Costa Mesa 37
The Mustangs (8-9, 1-1 in league) could not take advantage of the Eagles going two for nine from the free-throw line.
Jasmine Werdel scored a team-high 10 points and Jennifer Courtney had five points and 11 rebounds.
“We just missed every shot,” Costa Mesa Coach Jim Weeks said. “We just missed layups and layups. It’s hard to believe that they were that good to intimidate us like that. We got shots. We just made bad passes.”
Weeks said the loss was not from a lack of desire.
“We worked hard all the time, I have no complaints about the effort,” Weeks said. “We knew this was a big game. We were looking ahead to this game.”
Michelle Figueroa said the Mustangs will have to fare better against the Eagles’ long-range attack, Calvary Chapel hit seven three-pointers to Costa Mesa’s two, in the pair’s next two meetings.
