Estancia prevails
Estancia High junior Dallas Kopp had a breakthrough performance to
help the Eagles earn a 61-49 boys basketball win over visiting
Beaumont in the first round of the Coast Classic Monday night. Kopp,
a 6-foot-5 post, produced a career-high 15 points and 12 rebounds to
help the Eagles advance to tonight’s quarterfinals against Granite
Hills at 8.
“And he guarded their best player,†Estancia Coach Jason Simco
said. “We asked him to do a lot and he responded. I had a talk with
him after last week’s loss to Laguna Beach and let him know we needed
more from him. We introduced him last tonight, to let him know this
was going to be his team next year.â€
Carlos Pinto added 18 points for Estancia (8-2). Junior guard
Shaun Markley added six assists to his nine points and the Eagles
also received a boost from Blake Pinto, a 5-11 sophomore summoned
from the junior varsity.
“[Blake Pinto, no relation to Carlos] is going to stay on the
varsity,†Simco said.
