Costa Mesa runs wild

It began just as well as it started for the Costa Mesa Mustangs in

their Pee Wee game against the Stanton Raiders Saturday as Mike

Morley intercepted a Raider pass and galloped 80 yards as time

expired to cap a 32-6 win.

Costa Mesa started scoring early, going up 6-0 as quarterback

Gilbert Beas ran into the end zone.

The Mustangs didn’t let up, as Joey Palacios and Joshua Erno also

scored TD’s before halftime as Omar Luna, Derrick Van Grow, Joe

Galvez, Jason Moreno, Palacios, Erno and Nick Peterson all made key

blocks and held the Raiders to one TD.

Tyler French scored another TD for the Mustangs in the second half

before Morley’s interception. Erno made some key blocks to allow

Morley to scamper 80 yards into the end zone.

In Junior Pee Wee play:

* The Junior Pee Wee Green team held Canyon Hills to six points

Saturday but scored plenty of their own points.

Chris Gute led the team with four touchdowns (one TD was called

back due to a penalty) and had one fumble recovery.

Gute ripped the ball from the running back’s hands and ran into

the end zone for one of his four scores as Jacob Folsom also had a

TD. Derek Amendola and Jesse Dawson each scored a conversion point,

and the Green defense played solidly.
