BIKE IT UP LAGUNA

Laguna Beach Rotary will host an evening filled with tips and

techniques from the pros for the trail and the street. Led by Linda

Yadao, a national bike safety educator, children will learn the

etiquette and rules of cycling including the consequences of ignoring

traffic laws and rules of the road . Participants can also enter a

drawing for a bike, helmets and tons of cool stuff. The event will

The Laguna Beach Senior Center and the Arts Commission in

conjunction with Banking on Art is accepting artwork from Orange

Country residents 55 and older for the fifth annual Senior Art

Exhibit. All entries must be original and have been executed within

Local members of the National Association of Professional

Organizers will sponsor, “Help I need an organizer!†The winner will

RED FLAG PATROL VOLUNTEER TRAINING

The Laguna Coast Fire Safe Council will hold a volunteer training

session from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Conference Room A at City Hall, 505

Forest Ave. The session will be conducted by representatives of the

Laguna Beach Fire Department and the Orange County Fire Authority.

Volunteers will patrol in pairs and will be asked to drive two-hour

shifts acting as additional eyes and ears for the fire department to

PEDIATRIC BASIC LIFE SUPPORT CLASS

South Coast Medical Center will hold a Pediatric Basic Life

Support class for registered daycare / childcare providers. This

four-hour class will include instruction on “Pediatric CPR†and

“Obstructed Airway Techniques†for infants (0-1 years) and children

(1-8 years). This class is also recommended for parents, grandparents

and baby sitters. The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the

auditorium at South Coast Medical Center, 31872 S. Coast Highway.

DRILLS AND SKILLS FOR A CYCLE SMART COMMUNITY

The Rotary Club of Laguna Beach will hold a seminar for bicyclists

to learn how to make appropriate decisions in a variety of complex

helmets and favorite riding gear to earn an official Laguna Beach

Rider Permit. The event will test balance, braking, hand signals,

The Laguna Beach Rotary Grand Prix

The Laguna Beach Rotary Grand Prix will debut with a series of

races including the UCSF Sanctioned Professional Criterium Bicycle

Race and the Shimano Kid’s Race Series. There will also be a

Celebrity Chase that will include Kermit Alexander, former, All-Pro

defensive back for the ‘49ers and the L.A. Rams, Jim Hill, sports

director, CBS Sports, to name only a few. The Nicole Spirit

Invitational will launch young athletes younger than 23 who are

auditioning for USA Cycling and Junior National Championship teams.

There will also be a Health Fitness Merchandise Expo where

participants can learn more about health, blood pressure,

cholesterol, body fat and more. The first race will begin at 7 a.m.,

the Shimano Kids Race Series at 10:25 a.m. and Celebrity Chase at 11

a.m. The day’s races will take place in downtown Laguna Beach. The

start/finish line is on Forest Avenue. Racers can register online.

All races are $35, except the Shimano Kids and the Celebrity races.

The PRO 1 and 2 race is $50. Non-racers are encouraged to volunteer.
